Dr Richard Colebourne BDS(Ncle UK) DGDP(UK) DPDS(Brist) LFHom(Dental) GDC Reg: 68019
Dentist

For Richard, dentistry and helping patients is a passion. "I feel privileged that I love what I do; every day the dental profession can positively change people’s lives – from instantly eliminating toothache, to overcoming anxiety and most satisfying of all, cosmetically improving or creating a smile. To see a happy healthy smile and the confidence it brings is very rewarding. At EDHT, patients quickly become friends and we like to build lasting relationships. It’s great to welcome our friends, listen to their news and offer guidance to enjoy dental health for life."

Richard is committed to providing high quality dental care, using the best of modern materials and technology in a relaxed and friendly environment. He works hard to stay at the forefront of dentistry by gaining knowledge from leading British and International dental specialists. "Continuous professional development allows our patients to benefit from any improvements in dentistry as soon as possible".

Professional memberships include: AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry), ADI (Association of Dental Implantology), SAAD (Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry), BDA (British Dental Association), FGDP (Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, Royal College of Surgeons England). Richard has gained additional postgraduate qualifications - the Diploma in General Dental Practice (DGDP) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996 and the Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies (DPDS) from Bristol University in 2002 for which he studied periodontology (gum health), oral surgery and the treatment of the worn dentition. Richard's most recent qualification was in homeopathic medicine (LFHom(Dental)) from Bristol NHS Homeopathic Hospital in 2006.

Richard decided to become a dentist when he was fourteen years old. From school at Lord Wandsworth College he headed north for the five years of undergraduate dental study. He qualified from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne UK in 1992 and entered an NHS practice to complete Vocational Training in 1993. After a few years work in Newcastle Richard was invited to supervise and teach part time at the Newcastle Dental School, passing back experiences of general dental practice.

In 1996, Richard married Lorna and before starting a family they decided to travel around the world. "Having worked for five years it was an amazing opportunity to see many world landmarks and experience vastly different cultures: - Many patients also enjoy travelling, especially once retired and I like to hear about their travel stories".

In 1998, Richard joined a private practice in Cheltenham. "The quality of care, materials and technical support was less restricted privately and this complemented the excellent dental experience I’d enjoyed in Newcastle".

In 2000, Richard, Lorna and new born son Oliver established Evesham Dental Health Team. With the support of the Cheltenham practice and his nurse Sharon, Richard branched out, working part-time in Evesham and Cheltenham. As the Evesham practice successfully grew, mainly by patients recommending their family, friends and colleagues - the team, facilities and opening hours all increased.

Outside work Richard enjoys family time spent with Lorna and the children. Together they have learned to dinghy sail and also enjoy cycling and skiing. Richard would like to play more golf as well as watching rugby and football matches if he had more leisure time!
