Smile Academy

What is involved in the EDHT Smile Academy?

For younger children the focus will be ensuring they are familiar and comfortable with our dental practice and instilling good dental health habits from an early age. Our friendly professional team will work closely with you giving advice on brushing techniques and providing dietary advice particularly on healthy snacks and drinks.

From the age of six years old the teeth that need to last a lifetime start to enter the mouth. At this next stage we want to help your child start to take responsibility for maintaining the good dental care habits implemented in the early years.

As children reach their teens they become more self aware and having a healthy bright smile will help your child confidently achieve their goals. During the teenage years our focus will be on educating them about plaque and diet, the causes of tooth decay, erosion and gum disease, tooth brushing and flossing techniques, and the importance of wearing a mouth guard if engaged
in contact sports.

Young adults are often at an age where parental influence has reduced and are particularly vulnerable to snacking and drinking acidic drinks which damage their teeth. As well as maintaining all the preventive care given in the developing years, we will address the issues that become important to this age group such as keeping fresh breath and teeth white.

Why join our membership plan for children and young adults?

As a dental practice, one of our main concerns is for the dental welfare of our younger patients and how we can look after them through to adulthood. Our children’s membership plan named ‘Smile Academy’ is a way of enabling the most appropriate treatment for your child through all stages of their development. Our preventive dental care encourages your child to know how to look after their teeth and gums properly – now and in the future. With our help your children can be happy about visiting the dentist and smile with confidence.

What is included in the Smile Academy?

Worldwide Dental Emergency Assistance Scheme*

Eligibility to request assistance following a dental trauma and/or dental emergency or oral cancer.

Statistics show that 1 in 7 children will damage their teeth before the age of 15, so the Scheme is a valuable inclusion.

* The Worldwide Dental Emergency Assistance Scheme is a scheme established to offer support and assistance to dental plan patients who request treatment following a dental trauma and/or dental emergency or oral cancer. The Scheme responds to requests for assistance on a wholly discretionary basis. This means that, whilst the Scheme aims to provide benefits in most cases, it has no obligation to provide any benefit unless it first decides (in its sole and absolute discretion) that it should provide a benefit. There are some circumstances in which the Scheme is not designed to help and these are explained in more detail in the Scheme Handbook. Each request will be looked at individually to assess the request for benefit. Certain restrictions and limitations may apply in the event that the request is accepted and it is possible that the Scheme will decide to provide no benefit.
