The members of our dental team have been chosen for their special interest in helping people. Our team is caring and knowledgeable, spending time to listen, offer advice and encourage dental health. Our practice is about people, not just their teeth. We will help you in any way we can to achieve a confident smile and dental health for life.
Dr Richard Colebourne BDS(Ncle) DGDP(UK) DPDS(Brist) LFHom(Dental)
For Richard, dentistry and helping patients is a passion……….. ‘I feel privileged that I love what I do; every day the dental profession can positively change people’s lives – from instantly eliminating toothache, to overcoming anxiety and most satisfying of all cosmetically improving or creating a smile. To see a happy healthy smile and the confidence it bring is very rewarding. At EDHT patients quickly become friends and we like to build lasting relationships. It’s great to welcome our friends, listen to their news and offer guidance to enjoy dental health for life.’

Richard is committed to providing high quality dental care, using the best of modern materials and technology in a relaxed and friendly environment. He works hard to stay at the forefront of dentistry by gaining knowledge from leading British and International dental specialists. ‘Continuous professional development allows our patients to benefit from any improvements in dentistry as soon as possible’.

Professional memberships include: AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) ADI (Association of Dental Implantology) SAAD (Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry) BDA (British Dental Association) FGDP (Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, Royal College of Surgeons England) Richard has gained additional postgraduate qualifications - the Diploma in General Dental Practice (DGDP) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996 and the Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies (DPDS) from Bristol University in 2002 for which he studied periodontology (gum health), oral surgery and the treatment of the worn dentition. Richard's most recent qualification was in homeopathic medicine (LFHom(Dental)) from Bristol NHS Homeopathic Hospital in 2006.

Richard decided to become a dentist when fourteen years old. From school at Lord Wandsworth College he headed north for the five years of undergraduate dental study. He qualified from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1992 and entered an NHS practice to complete Vocational Training in 1993. After a few years work in Newcastle Richard was invited to supervise and teach part time at the Newcastle Dental School, passing back experiences of general dental practice.

In 1996 Richard married Lorna and before starting a family they decided to travel around the world. ‘Having worked for five years it was an amazing opportunity to see many world landmarks and experience vastly different cultures: - Many patients also enjoy travelling, especially once retired and I like to hear about their travel stories’

In 1998 Richard joined a private practice in Cheltenham. ‘The quality of care, materials and technical support was less restricted privately and this complemented the excellent dental experience I’d enjoyed in Newcastle.’

In 2000 Richard, Lorna and new born son Oliver established Evesham Dental Health Team. With the support of the Cheltenham practice and his nurse Sharon, Richard bridged out, working part-time in Evesham and Cheltenham. As the Evesham practice successfully grew, mainly by patients recommending their family, friends and colleagues - the team, facilities and opening hours all increased.

Outside work Richard enjoys family time spent with Lorna and the children; Oliver is now seven and Liberty five years old. He’d like to play more golf, watch more rugby / football and plans to introduce the children to skiing and sailing soon.

Our patients benefit from a friendly, qualified and highly experienced nursing team. The members of our dental team have been chosen for their special interest in helping people. Our team is caring and knowledgeable, spending time to listen, offer advice and encourage dental health. Lorna Colebourne BA(Hons)(Ncle) PGCE(Primary) DipPPM
Lorna plays an essential part in the smooth-running of the practice. She handles much of the behind-the-scenes work, enabling the rest of our team to focus on caring for our patients.

Lorna works part time as patient and practice manager. She completed her studies and gained a distinction in the Diploma in Professional Practice Management in 2006.

Lorna is married to Richard and has been involved with the development of the practice from the very beginning. The dream of setting up the practice became a reality at the start of the new millennium. Lorna was the receptionist to greet the first patients when EDHT opened on 10th August 2000.

Lorna met Richard whilst studying at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. On graduating Lorna worked as an infant teacher in Newcastle for four years. Lorna’s heart was always set on starting a family and so, after some world travel, Oliver was born in Cheltenham in September 1999. It was during the maternity leave that the opportunity to establish Evesham Dental Health Team was realised and soon with Oliver in arms, Lorna was coordinating the conversion of the Bed & Breakfast ‘Dayleen’ on Broadway Road into a combined home and dental practice.

Oliver and daughter Liberty (born March 2002) have enjoyed growing up with the dental practice and you could often hear their bath time antics from the consulting room! The family moved out of the practice in August 2004 to make way for further dental facilities and disabled access.

Lorna finds the most rewarding aspect of her work at EDHT is hearing how peoples’ treatment at the practice has literally changed their lives - giving new found confidence, a happy smile, fresher breath and better prospects. So many comment that at last they are no longer afraid to come to the dentist and positively look forward to visiting us!

Lorna devotes her spare time to caring for the family and enjoys swimming, family outings, the company of friends, good food and wine and travelling. She hopes to return to the exhilarating sport of skiing when the children are older!
